For a decade, Gaby was Executive Director of The ELM Project, a non-profit organization that serves children living with chronic illness. Since 2017 Gaby has sung with the Resistance Revival Chorus, a collective of over 70 women and non-binary artists and activists.
Gaby loves exploring new metal smithing techniques, finding ways to recycle materials and creating unique, custom designs.
John Curley and Karen Manheimer have been Nyack residents since 2001. John, a functional potter for over 25 years, began printing with Indian textile blocks on fabric during covid; during the same time Karen began to deeply explore her longtime interest in knitting.
Karen, an international essential oils trader, began bringing textile blocks and printed fabrics back from business trips to India years ago. Initially John used them in his ceramic work, but now has amassed a large collection from numerous sources. The blocks are hand carved and can be used in sets with multiple blocks fitting together, each used to print a different color dye. John prints numerous patterns on various fabrics, making t-shirts, tablecloths, bandanas etc. Fabrics are carefully chosen, some coming from a small women-owned company in Cambodia which uses upcycled cotton, other fabrics come from a small family business in India. John also prints on organic cotton T's made entirely in the USA. He dyes by hand in an old maple syrup boiling pot, and also uses some blocks to print with wax making batik.
Karen's love of traveling to India and its vibrant culture, inspires her choice of yarn in the items she knits.
