KAHORI KAMIYA

Sacred Threads

May 24 - July 13, 2025

Opening reception: Saturday, May 24, 2-4 PM

Perry Lawson Fine Art is pleased to present Kahori Kamiya: Sacred Threads, a solo exhibition featuring paintings and sculpture by Kahori Kamiya, a Japanese-born artist now based in Rockland County, NY. Raised in a culture that infuses daily life with spirituality, she draws from Japanese traditions that honor the natural world, ancestral rituals, and the unseen forces that connect all beings. Her multidisciplinary practice—including sculpture, painting, video, and performance—is also deeply influenced by motherhood, exploring themes of nurture, devotion, and the cyclical nature of existence. Sacred Threads run through her work in both concept and form, linking personal experience with ancestral wisdom and bridging the physical and spiritual realms.

Kamiya holds a BFA and an MFA in sculpture from the Nihon University of Art in Tokyo, and an MFA in Fine Art from the School of Visual Arts in New York. She has had residencies at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP), ChaNorth, and Prospect Gallery in Australia, and received grants and awards from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Arts Westchester, Puffin Foundation, Hudson Valley MOCA, and Kitano Foundation. Her work has been supported by the Brooklyn Arts Council, Flux Factory, and The Arts Council of Rockland.

Her 2023 debut solo show in at Amos Eno Gallery in New York received critical acclaim from Hyperallergic, Art Spiel, and others. She has exhibited at SPRING/BREAK Art Show, the 14th Media Art Biennale Alternative Now in Poland, Dumbo Art Festival, Pärnu International Film & Video Festival in Estonia, and Oculus Westfield World Trade Center. Her works are in public and private collections in Japan, the UK, Israel, Sweden, and the US.
